Lilly (Köhler) leads a conventional life by 1943 German standards. She has four children and is a good housewife, until she meets Felice (Schrader), a young Jewish woman living in the underground. Lilly and Felice fall in love and Lilly decides to leave her husband, not realizing the dangers the two face trying to carry on their relationship under Nazi rule.
